Which Staff Member - Which Monkey - Monkey Fact Monday!

Hey monkeys! It's time for another Monkey Fact Monday, where, for the next couple of week's, Calypso will be asking staff members what their favorite monkeys are and why. Last week, Calypso asked Bananatastic what his favorite monkey was, now...

This week I asked Manx what monkey species was her favorite:
Manx
"I think Goeldi Marmosets really neat because they're so small and cute!
And also that not much is known about them since their species is so spread out. That's why I think we need to really conserve our rainforests -- there are so many species we haven't discovered yet, and more that we don't know a lot about. It would be shame if we lost them."
Sweet Manx! They sure would be missed if we lost them!
Goeldi's_marmoset_or_Goeldi's_monkey
Goeldi Marmosets are most commonly found in the Amazon River Basin. Goeldi Marmosets adult monkeys only weight about 3 ounces -- That's tiny!
Wow! Goeldi Marmosets are cute little monkeys (: What do you think of them and this Monkey Fact Monday? Who do you think will be asked for next week's Monkey Fact Monday? Leave a comment and let me know!

Monkey Fact Monday: Bananatastic's FAVORITE Monkey!

Hey monkeys! Angie here, another Monday meaning another Monkey Fact Monday! Now, for the next few weeks, Calypso will be asking MiniMonos staff members what their favorite monkey species is, and why. This week, Calypso chose to ask Bananatastic what his favorite monkey species was and why! Check out what he said:
Bananatastic"I like the Douc Langur Monkey! It is an endangered monkey, native to Southeast Asia. At this time they're facing a lot of pressure because they're losing their habitats quickly!
Just like me, the Douc Langur Monkey deserves a home!  I try my best to follow up on their story to see how they're doing… It looks like they're still in trouble to this day, but thankfully WWF are trying to save them. "
Awesome BT, these monkeys are definitely one of a kind!
Douc langur
As a Douc Langur grows older, its whiskers tend to grow longer! Douc Langurs also tend to have big bellies -- even the males are mistaken to be pregnant at times! :-)
Wow, these are quite the monkeys BT! I think they're pretty cool (: What do you think of the Douc Langur monkey? And what MiniMonos staff member will be chosen for the next Monkey Fact Member? Leave a comment and let me know, and stay tuned for the next Monkey Fact Monkey to find more facts on monkeys, what MiniMonos staff member gets chosen for the next Monkey Fact Monday, and what their favorite species of monkey is and why!

Monkey Fact Monday!

Hey Monkeys!
Mioster here to tell you about Monkey Fact Monday! This week we are learning about the De Brazza monkeys!    They are very smart monkeys so hear what Calypso had to say about them on the Go Bananas Blog:

The De Brazza's monkeys were known as swamp monkeys until the Italian-French explorer Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza renamed them after himself.
De_Brazza's_monkeyDe Brazza's monkeys don't live very long compared to other types of monkeys, just an average of about 22 years.
These monkeys are very skilled when it comes to hiding from predators. One tactic they use when they are alarmed, is to freeze and act dead! De Brazza's monkeys also have the ability camouflage themselves in their surroundings very well.

That is awesome! These monkeys are very cool.

What other animals do you know, 'play dead' to escape from predators?

So that's enough for Monkey Fact Monday! Comment and say what you think!

Monkey Fact Monday: Rhesus Monkeys!

Hey Monkeys,

Have you heard about Monkey Fact Monday? It is every Monday where Calypso (or other awesome monkeys) add some awesome facts about monkeys to the Go Bananas Blog, well today Taylor told us about the Rhesus Monkey! Let's hear more!!

Rhesus-monkey_685_600x450
Picture from National Geographic Mammals page as well as most information below.
As you can see from the picture, Rhesus Monkeys are brownish color with red faces, pretty cute right?
These monkeys are mostly from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Southeast Asia, and China. A few military troops also introduced Rhesus Monkeys to America!
You will normally find Rhesus monkeys eating roots, fruit, seeds and bark, but also bugs and small animals. They live in troops (monkey groups) that can be as big as 200 monkeys! Whoa! That must be NOISY! :-D
Rhesus monkeys can climb and swim really well but prefer to spend most of their time on the ground -- just like us!
Have a Bananatastic day!

New Monkey Fact Monday Facts!

...Golden Lion Monkeys, or as some people like to call them -- Golden Lion tamarin. You'll find that these monkeys are pretty unique.   Golden-lion-monkey
You can see from the picture above that Golden Lion Monkeys are small yellow-orange monkeys.
Yawn found some really interesting facts about these monkeys. The adult golden lion monkeys only weigh about 17-24 ounces. As you can see, they get the lion part of their name from the lion-like mane around their necks! Golden lion monkeys have hugely long tails -- most of them measure up to 16 inches, that's longer than their whole body!
Cool! Those are some AMAZING facts that Yawn provided us with! What do you monkeys think of the Golden Lion Monkeys? Which name do you like better, Golden Lion Monkey or Golden Lion tamarin? Leave a comment, and let us know what you think!

Monkey Fact Monday - New Monkey Species

Hey Monkeys,

Have you heard about Monkey Fact Monday? It is every Monday where Calypso (or other awesome monkeys) add some awesome facts about monkeys to the Go Bananas Blog, well today Calyspo was chatting with her awesome friend Viper, who stumbled upon an article from November 2010, talking about a new species of monkeys! Let's hear more!!

This type of monkey was found in Burma (or Myanmar) so they named it the Burmese snub-nosed monkey! A strange fact about these monkeys are when it rains, or they get wet, they huddle together as a group, put their heads between their legs... and just sneeze! Wow, that's strange, but cool!
Sadly, even though they have JUST been discovered, their population is way too low, and they are highly endangered! Oh No!

This picture above is NOT a Burmese snub-nosed monkey, but it is the cousin of them... The Golden Snub-Nosed monkey! Many researchers have seen these monkeys and inferred their actions, none have pictures of them!
Here is an artist's portrait of their prediction of how they look like:

These monkeys are truly amazing, and I hope they can fully recover them so they do not become endangered, that would be terrible, right? Let's hope for the best! Calypso will keep us updated on these monkeys!
